The Pro Ski and Ride is proud to offer our customers advanced ski boot stance assessment and alignment!

This service is for skiers seeking to dial in their fore/aft balance as well as their lateral alignment. Being balanced fore/aft in a ski boot is critical to allow skiers to remain stable while flexing forward as well as preventing fatigue associated with being in an over flexed position. Lateral alignment is key to line up the center of knee mass over the center of the ski to provide quick edge to edge transfer of energy as well enhancing the feeling of the ski being flat on snow.

This is the last step in the boot customization process. To be a candidate for this service the boot should already be properly fitted and have an effective custom foot bed.

Appointments for Advanced Stance Alignment are required and can be made by clicking this link.

The cost for the Advanced Stance Alignment is $50 per session. This $50 will be deducted from the cost of under boot sole canting if this service is performed.

Advanced Alignment Assessment

To assess for/aft balance our boot fitters will measure the angle of your leg shaft inside the ski boot as well as check your body's position relative to the ski boot sole. We will compare these to targets than suggest products and services to help achieve the recommended changes including:

  • Booster Straps
  • Heel or toe lifts
  • Spoilers
  • Eliminator or Tongue shims
  • Straightening or shortening the rear of the cuff

During this step our boot fitters will remove the ski boot liners and put your custom foot beds in the shells of your boots. Our boot fitters will review how your leg shaft lines up with the cuff of the ski boot while standing on your custom foot beds. The goal is to center the leg shaft in the boot which may be achieved by:

  • Using built in cuff adjustment
  • Adding wedges to the foot bed
  • Boot board canting strips
  • Shortening the cuff

The Pro Ski and Ride has purchased the Atomic Canting Assessment Kit which allows us to use lasers and precision machined wedges to precisely align a skier's center of knee mass over the center of their boot.

During this assessment we would mark the skier's center of knee mass using a caliper. We would have the skier go in their skiing stance on small foam blocks to simulate the give of snow. This would allow us to see if the skier is properly aligned or if under boot sole canting is needed.

We would then test different angles to see what combination offers proper alignment and the most flat feeling from the skier's perspective.

If the lateral laser alignment shows that canting is needed, The Pro is able to provide under boot sole canting for most boots.

For solid sole ski boots, we would install angled lifters to the bottom of the boots to achieve the necessary cants.

For ski boots with with replaceable heels and toes we would add wedges from the manufacturer or Cantology in between the boot and the sole.

The heels and toes of the boots would then be routed to conform to DIN standards and the boot would be tested in the ski binding to ensure proper function.

Cost for canting ranges from $200 - $230 less the $50 assessment fee. Costs vary depending on materials that would need to be ordered.

The Pro Ski and Ride is not able to offer this service on:

  • Boots with excessive sole wear.
  • Boots with replaceable heels and toes that are not compatible with Cantology wedges and the manufacturer does not have their own.
  • Boots with replaceable heels and toes that we cannot acquire Alpine/DIN soles for.
