THE PRO'S TAKE
The Blizzard Black Pearl 97 Women's Skis appeal to the traditionalist in all of us. Two sheets of metal with a classic rocker-camber-rocker profile, the Black Peral 97 is the gold standard in all-mountain dominance. Using a W.S.D. (Women Specific Design) construction that is made to be lightweight without compromising top-end performance, these skis are specifically designed for women by women. A unidirectional carbon layer in the tips and tails of the sandwich construction keeps the ski quiet, stable and smooth. New for 2022, Blizzard is using what it calls TrueBlend wood core, a vertical lamination technique that allows variable density wood stringers to be precisely placed along the length of the ski. The end product is a ski that exhibits a predictable, rounded flex, specifically designed for the purpose of the given ski. In terms of on-snow feel, more pliability in the tips and tails will make the Black Pearl 97 initiate turns easier than ever before, encouraging face-melting carved turns across the fall line. A tight 16m turn radius in the 171 length brings a piste-centric feeling to what is true and all-mountain, go-anywhere machine. Rockered tips keep the ski feeling floaty and robust through less than ideal snow conditions. Though the Balck Pearl line exhibits a burlier flex profile than the Sheeva line, we still think the composed and calm ride of this ski could work with a myriad of different skiing styles. A forward, athletic skiing stance will be rewarded with a powerful and damp ride. Unpredictable snow conditions bow to this bomb-proof construction that Blizzard has drawn up. All the Black Pearl 97 requires is a Queen to lead the charge.
